For about 15 years I have been collecting world naval warship postcards. I have approximately 2000 postcards. The postcards are mainly pre-1945. The warships are from all over the world, predominantly the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany. I also own some postcard views of the more famous warships of the 20th Century such as the Bismarck and Emden. Most of the warships in my collection are from the Pre-Dreadnought era (late 1800s to 1906).

Comment: This is certainly member of top ten postcard sites: it is marked by a. scientific precision of data, 2. perfect layout 3. logical and so instructive structure.
I have been amazed by the richness of the choice and still rigorous adherence to the theme.
No other site, apart from the Maltese Aiibus Captain site on airlines postcards.
I studied several section of this magnificent site and would like to emphasise the balance of the site in general
As deltiologist I would have only one recommendation: adding some information giving more information on a few vintage postcards, if possible, including e g whether it is mint or used, the stamps used, the cancellation stamps, when no considered in conflict with privacy laws (the postcards older than 70 years are in general considered as eligible) quoting the text on the back - or before 1902 (aprox) on the front.

Comment: This site offers airline postcards for trading and you can find some surprising and unique pieces in the category commercial - which is normally slightly neglected by collectors and without justification. Here I have found to some disappointment only fresh or mint postcards and no sent, which I prefer and so does many a contemporary deltiologist. There is a good deal of first hand and quality information to study on the sent ones, whereas the mints are only magnificent in colour but kind a sterile. They lack the perfume of distance in time and space, stamps, or a few of those words written by hand. This is so appealing, this gives even some thrill when I study where it was posted, which state issued the stamps and the cancellation stamp print is a short detective story.
The site was a refreshing experience.

We are retired and love to scour the countryside for rare and unusual items which catch our eye. Now, something has to move out to make room for the new, so we are offering these items for your consideration and selection:

I am sorry to say that my visit to this site was useless - the links to the auctions are dead and I could not find a single Penny Postcard, although I was trying quite hard.

I really enjoyed this site. all postcards are of excellent authenticity and quality. A few are posted, i e used, adding the extra value of the time almost 100 years ago. The combination of tint and colour and photography is amost quintessential for this period. The subchapter on the Royal Post is a valuable resource for both philatelist and deltiologist.

Comment: Today I am visiting The Dominican Republic. The webmaster lives in Santo Domingo - this is always music in the deltiologist's ears to hear that yet another person discovered the beauties and niceties of poatcard collecting. and collecting the countries and towns is one of the best themes in postcard collection. The swap of 5 or more postcards in one envelope, a proven method but again the values of the sent, with cancellation stamp prints and postal stamps of the caountry of origin, they are likely to lose some of that hidden appeal of the touch of the distance in SPACE and TIME. I am looking forward to addditions to this promising site.

A few liks are dead or lead to betting and casino locations or cloaked as various kinds of competitions with 'you have won' they are likely to bring you to a MLM site.

LEROY'S HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

I've been collecting picture postcards for at least 50 years. I really don't consider myself an expert Deltiologist, but I know what I like. When I was 9 years old my Grandfather died and I inherited his collection of cards.

During the 1930's my Grandparents traveled by motor coach all over the Western United States. He bought and saved postcards along the way and when he returned home he would entertain clubs and church groups with his adventures. His postcards would be projected on a screen with an opaque projector.

The number of postcards in my collection has grown from the original one hundred or so to 4,000 or more, many dating back to the early 1900 to 1930 period. Favorite subjects are: Transportation, Texas Cities, Expositions, Old Mexico, and the American West

Comment: I have been absolutely thrilled to see a few vintage postcard samples on this site and I regret to say that the webmaster did not publish them. Waht a pity. Those postcards from his grandfather must be real deltiologic jevels. The feel the travellers adventures covered by them may be the most unique deltiologic experience on the web. Please Leroy could you add at least several of this postcard treasure you possess. For the postcard's sake, I beg.

Comment: I have enjoyed this site with vintage postcards with stamps and sent by post. This is the touch of history and society at that time when they were sent and postal stamps cancelled at the post, unlike these high quality new mints giving nothing more than the quality thick paper and precise print in colours, which brings the unique feeling to postcard collecting - were they intended to be sent somewhere sometimes, BUT they are not - the collector keeps them isolated in her or his drawers and racks, or for swapping at best - they are sort of on-shelf books in a library, mint and fresh, nice yet empty, sterile, barren - I think, if a mint new postcard longed for anything than it is to be sent and given the chance to live its real life, to do its life travel, to bring joy to an addressee and perhaps only after fulfilling its purpose to land in hands of a discerning deltiologist, in a well kept, ordered and loved collection of postcards, to tell its moving story of travelling between lands, through so many post services and their sorting machines to its colleagues in the collection. Well this is how Christian Andersen would feel the postcard collecting - the real world of colletors still clings to aseptically new, fresh mint postcards - but there are distinct signs of the change for the better - and this site is a good proof to it.

This website is set up for one of my oldest and most passionate hobbies- postcard collecting. Here you will find information about me, my postcard collecting hobby and trading information. What you will not read here is what other websites say "my aim is to get a postcard from each country around the globe" (but you have actually just read that, yay me! :D) and similar but obvious information. I'd like to exchange postcards with people from all over the world. Here you can see some samples of what I have for trade; however, I have more than that and can match your preferences. I can send animal (dog and cat, rarely horses) cards in exchange for cards I collect. Many cards in my album are marked as unavailable because the bookshop that had them was closed forever and those cards are not stocked in other bookshops. I will be on the lookout for them, of course.





You send postcards from the country/state you live in! My interests are:


city panorama
night view of a city
places of interest
historic sites, including churches
people and specifics of the country; maps are also OK
Japanese sights and other Asian sights.

But we can talk about each swap seperately in person. I am willing to do regular or one time swaps of up to 10 (but we can agree and about more) regular size (10x15) postcards to different countries and I prefer to exchange 4 cards only for our first trade. I accept only mint/new postcards. Among that, my meta-preferences would be:

A beautiful site with outstanding language. The maps collection is nice. What I have seen on the Ginte's site from the same Baltic state has some in common: love for Japan (I would suggest a there, a captivating one, postcards with reproductions of Japanese woodcuts), origami, collector may be studying Japanese, church motifs or themes.
And again, the mints are the only option. What would they ONLY say to the simple fact that the established deltiologic assoc of Miami does not consider postcards even stamps with cancellation stamp prints and written on as less valuable, but rather on the contrary?

A comment _ Whether postcard or not, these collages are worth a short post. All of them are very good designs, lovely assemblages of images. if they were sent in the 60 or so as postcards to no matter where and from, my joy would be even bigger and would know - if not breaking the privacy rights - what the back rear of the postcard was like? Isn't it everybody's dream to travel? Especially if it is travelling the whole world. Continent by continent; countries by countries. Dreaming is free but reality is we can't all travel the whole world. Good news is, I know a way how? Are you excited to know it too? Mmmm...ready to read this? The great way to travel all around the world is by collecting postcards. Yes! you read it right...it is the postcards!!!

I got hooked by these beautiful things last September 2003. As I was cleaning and organizing my things (a very hard task for me!) I saw all of my postcards from previous school projects, gifts from my penpals, families and friends who lived abroad and during my travels too. I saw the sceneries and then I said to myself "Oh how beautiful these places are!" but I thought it cost too much to go to those places. So an idea crops up, I should start collecting postcards and it would be like I've been to that places

Comment - a nice site - with philosophical thoughts and general ideas on collecting postcards - how a person realizes its very own beauties, gets hooked by deltiology. I did not find a huge display of postcards here, but those not for trade are all with no exception the best quality sent postcards, which in terms of nowadays trends in collecting are real jewels, in comparison to those mint and not sent, which give much less information on time and space and the postal services at their time.

This is a relatively small collection of postcards and they are focused on the Edinburg area in Indianopolis and this is tightly linked to the first Christian Church founded in 1832 after the two streams Campbell's and Stone's fused and established the Disciples of Christ - as I myself have strong spiritual ties towards Hussite and European Reformist I appreciate that they took almost the same token i e logo for their service to our Lord: the Chalice. The only difference from the evangelical church here in Bohemia is that cross inside the chalice (the similarity of the Czech word 'kalich' and German 'Kelch' and Latine 'calix' is most than remarkable.
As a deltiologist, I highly treasure this kind of small topically and locally oriented postcards because they reflect the identity in time and space of a group of people, not only the postal services habits and the current themes of the postcard's time of issuing. Well done - a nice example that the biggest and hugest may not always be the best and on the contrary smaller collection may be of much higher authenticity and deltiologic importance and challenge for reseach.

A highly professional website dedicated to the best period of deltiology and to the most attractive topics e g the town views. This is the postcard tradition itself and the beginning - even before the 1868 or so, when the first edition issued by postal services in the USA marked the beginning of the postcard, we had views of Capital Cities in Europe engraved or etched or after abt 1800 lithographed on the limestone and documented and sometimes in smaller size sent by curriers to another state. The view of the state or a map of it with the capital city was also sort of presentation of the ruling authority, king, president, etc abroad - remember the radio and TV did not exist!
On this site every collector can find a lot inspiration and advice for creating a rich collection of her or his own - even technical means are offered.

I lithographed ie drew on stones views of Prague. I had them printed as postcards with names of the most famous beauty spots of Prague. I put a few of postage stamps from my grandfather's stamp collection, which are almost 100 years old and send my postcard via airmail worldwide - an original and rare philatelic postcard collectible
I have spruced slightly my site - I am sticking to my guns, as far as the issue mit vs used i e sent postcards is concerned.

The Wikipedia defines only mint postcard - intended. The definition pertains to the user not a collector. This is the privelege of a collector to make up her or his mind up whether to collect used items or fresh ones. Here typically a used item cannot be reused whereus this is not he case with some other collectibles e g antiquities, veteran cars. In these categories preserved function may be applied as quality criterion - in deltiology this is not the case: what is important is the authenticity material quality and amount of information that a deltiologist may gather from the piece: thus it does not matter significantly whether the postcard is new or used. On the contrary - the used may be rarer and seem to growing rarer as the electronic systems of data and image transfer are ever more usual and common in all walks of life - in sending short messages with a photograph or picture we have a whole lot of efficient digital methods to do this.

a lovely site, with the postcard featuring the point zero of equator lying in Brazil where the colletor Ana and her dogs live - very good structure and again the tendency to collect the mints - e g not written and stamped on the back as she puts it.
The philatelic habit is gradually wearing off inspired by postcards and noticeably the postcard lovers do not realize the specific strength of their hobby - the exchange of a few postcrds at the same time sent in envelopes seems to be the cause. Then, please keep the envelope within your collection, will you - this is a recommendation and in less then 10 years you will see the value of these envelopes growing up more quickly than of the collection itself - you may then remember this blog and my admonishing - so unpleasant at present. This is rather a humble and kind encouragement, isn't it?

I collect:

- new, nice and unwritten postcards

and this is a bone I have to pick with you - The postcard is a witness of time. The postal services give the print of the time, touch of distance to them. I do strongly challange the idea of 'unwritten, not used, nice postcards' - This is an out-of date criterion set on philatelic resources and in auctions with stamps there is the tendency to collect the whole item - i e the envelope or postcard with all its marks as it goes through the postal delivery services. This gives much more taste, feel of time, originality to every collection and the uniqueness is the highest criterion of any collection - in turn, this gives the input data for assessing the commercial value. The time of 'never hinged, mint' stamp or postcards is gradully passing with the advent of digital tachnologies where no limits are given to the quality of an immage, but the distict imprint of time and distance on the item, on the postcard cannot be generated by computers, those few words on the back written by a person, good or bad, cannot be repalced by ink jet rainbow letters which can be repeated for infinite number of times in the quality where there is no more copy and original. This is WHY I do ADVOCATE STRONGLY COLLECTING AND TRADING BY POST - THE POSTCARDS adn STAMPS. This is a document of our time packed with info in comaprison with a mint, beautiful, never used, not inscribed and written upon postcards, which are perfect but less historically authentical, original and as a result less attractive to a collector who loves all this on his or her collection.
Every postcards is a small antiquity even if a few years old - we should keep in mind that collection are for our posteriority. What do you think?

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN POSTCARDS

Postcards are fun ~ fun to send, and fun to receive, but never as much fun as when YOU make the postcard!
• Especially now it is affordable! All you need to make great postcards are: postcards, a printer, and a computer with software permitting adjustment of images and text.
If you don't have a scanner to input your own images, you can always take them to a copy shop and get them scanned onto a disk.
There is no need to buy expensive postcard stock , because most of it will smear - if not in your printer, it will smear when it passes through post office sorting machines. So use postcards designed to hold print, e.g., Mead 4x6-inch Plain Index Cards.
A pack of 50-cards cost less than $1 at the stationery department of almost every store in America, so you can afford to send everyone on your list a postcard, and you can afford to co-ordinate the colour of your scanner/computer/printer so each postcard turns out perfectly.
Many printers don't "accept" 4x6 cards, or print flush to the edge of the postcard, but you can usually trick your printer into accepting postcard stock by using the "Label" or "Envelope" setting.
The best way to circumvent a printer not printing flush to the edge of the postcard is to use a snapshot margin, e.g., on a 4x6-inch card, set a .2 upper and .2 lower margin (I use a .3 upper and .3 lower for the address sideof the postcard).
Instructions on how to adjust your image should be available with the "Help" function of your imaging software. However, if you are going to use a .2 margin, remember the size of your image should be 3.6 x 5.6-inches!
Although many image programmes offer a text function, you can usually do a better job of it using the "Word Art" function of Word, because it allows more creative use and positioning of text. To use WordArt, save your image to the Desktop in .pict format at 300 dpi or less.

Comment, as my postcard exploration voyage goes on, I have visited a technically perfect site, giving you in-detail and yet fully clear and comprehensible instructions how to make your own postcards - but of course, you cannot find here the postcards themselves apart from somowhat cruel examples with sharks. My dad used to say - you do know what is hunger and war - if he saw these samaple postcards - anyway, the instructions are very useful and what you get is postcard as this should be.

This is certainly a top aviation postcard site and is run by a captain of Maltese Air Lines - the quality of the scans is good, but for a stranger in this field the outstanding quality of the collection may not be so obvious, at first sight.
Congratulation, Captain zammit and keep on your excellent work and take care and be as much as healthy as this job is very damanding and responsible.

why is this indexed as poscards, when I could see nothing but digital photos of a party catching something - cannot be recognized nor is written anywhere on this site. Postcard are simply not digital photos. Postcards are sent by normal post.

And he was baptized with Vltavas water as me but a bit later and given the following names:_ Alois, Franz, Jonann-Nepomuck the latter one is to honour the Czech Martyr who was tortured and his body thrown in the river Moldau, Vltava king's personal confessor. And that was on 6 November 1771. a few historic facts in addition to the homepage.
